Q : How long do I have to wait before I can paint my new plaster ?
A : You should wait at least seven days or when the plaster has changed colour from a dark brown to a light pink.
Q : Do I have to remove the wallpaper before the walls are plastered ?
A : Yes, all wallpaper should be removed to ensure proper adhesion of the new plaster.
Q : After removing the wallpaper I noticed the walls are cracked, do they need re plastering ?
A : Not necessarily, it would depend on the level of damage. In some cases they can be filled with a suitable filler, but to achieve a uniform finish, the walls should be replastered.
Q : I have had a water leak causing the ceiling to sag, should the ceiling be totally re plastered ?
A : In most cases the ceiling should be totally re placed and re plastered to achieve a professional finish.
Q : Can I plaster over Artex ?
A : Artex can be covered over but requires more applications of plaster.
Q : I have had water damage to my ceiling, will my insurance company pay for the repairs ?
A : Yes, upon inspection of your property we would supply you with a written quotation for you to submit to your insurance company.
Q : What do I have to do to prepare my room/work area before the plasterers arrival ?
A : All areas to be worked on should have all the furniture and fittings removed to enable the plasterers to have a good working area.
Q : Do I need to remove my carpet ?
A : No, not as a rule, all carpets would be covered with dust sheets.
Q : Will there be any dust ?
A : Yes, dust may be quite heavy at times, depending upon the type of work taking place.
Although we would take precautions to protect the surroundings, we cannot be held responsible for problems associated with dust.
Dust is a normal part of the plastering process and should be seriously considered by the building owner before commencement of the work.
Q : What will the Plasterer require onsite ?
A : Generally, we will require clean water to mix materials, electricity and an area set aside where materials can be mixed, being a wet trade, the mixing area can get quite messy..
Also, adequate ventilation, a small storage area for dry materials and parking for our vehicle.
Q : I am having a new bathroom fitted. At what stage should I have the walls/ceiling plastered ?
A : After the old suite has been removed and after the plumber has done his first fix
(e.g. pipes repositioned to take the new suite).
If you are having new spot lights fitted, it is best to have the wires in for them only.
If they are already fitted, they can be popped out and plastered around.
Q : I am having a new kitchen fitted. When is the best time to plaster the walls/ceiling ?
A : Much like a bathroom once the pipes and new electrics have been fitted, but before the new kitchen units are installed.
Q : I just want some coving fitted – would you do this ?
A : Yes, of course. We supply and install all types of plaster coving.
Q : Do you charge by the square metre ?
A : No, as every job is different and requires different levels of preparation and varying amounts and types of materials to ensure a quality finish.
Plaster has to be worked to a flat finish over a course of around 2 4 hours so small areas can take the same time as a larger area. For larger jobs a daily rate can be negotiated
